BIRMINGHAM MAN CHARGED IN BANK ROBBERYBIRMINGHAM, AL - KERRY JAMES CALHOUN has been indicted by a federal grand jury charging him with bank robbery. CALHOUN, 40, of Birmingham, was charged in a one-count indictment filed today in U.S. District Court. The indictment charges that CALHOUN, on October 28, 2006, robbed the Fairfield Branch of AmSouth Bank. "Good police work lead to the quick apprehension of Calhoun," states U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin. "Robbing a bank is a quick ticket to federal prison." CALHOUN faces a maximum sentence of twenty years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Special Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation along with the Fairfield Police Department investigated this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Michael W. Whisonant is prosecuting this case on behalf of the U.S. Government. "I want to thank the citizens of Birmingham for their tips which helped lead to Mr. Calhoun's quick arrest," states Carmen Adams, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation. "Law enforcement simply could not do their job without the public's assistance." Members of the public
are reminded than an indictment contains only charges. A defendant is
presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government's burden
to prove a defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial. |
