JURY FINDS NORTH ALABAMA BANK ROBBER GUILTYBIRMINGHAM, AL - After a three day trial, a jury has found JIMMY DOYAL HINDMAN guilty of the robbery of two North Alabama Banks. The jury found HINDMAN guilty on all counts charged. HINDMAN, 62, of Hixson, Tennessee, was indicted in March 2006 and charged with two counts of bank robbery and two counts of firearm violations and one count of interstate transport of a stolen vehicle. Billy Don Harvey, a co-defendant in this case pled guilty and is currently awaiting sentencing. "Hindman is dangerous, and these convictions will make North Alabama Safer," states United States Attorney Alice H. Martin. HINDMAN robbed the Dekalb Bank of Sand Rock, Alabama on August 1, 2003. During that robbery approximately $18,599 was taken by HINDMAN as he brandished a firearm. On August 12, 2005, HINDMAN robbed the Community Bank of Elkmont, Alabama of approximately $8,000 as he again brandished a firearm. In March 2006, HINDMAN was charged in a five count indictment with two counts of bank robbery, and two charges of brandishing a firearm during a violent crime. Additionally HINDMAN was charged with interstate transport of a stolen vehicle. HINDMAN know faces a federal prison sentence of not more than 25 years on each count of bank robbery, and not less than 7 years on each count of using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. HINDMAN additionally faces a maximum sentence of ten years for interstate transport of a stolen vehicle. "This case highlights the cooperation between federal agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in both Tennessee and Alabama as well as local law enforcement from Limestone and Dekalb Counties in Alabama in addition to local law enforcement in Tennessee," states Carmen S. Adams, Special Agent in Charge Federal Bureau of Investigation, Birmingham Field Division. "As a result of the investigation two violent criminals are in custody awaiting their punishment."
