DOUBLE BANK ROBBER SENTENCED TO 151 MONTHS IN PRISON

BIRMINGHAM, AL - DANNY MILO ALSABROOKS, 49, of Greensboro, Alabama, was sentenced today in United States District Court for the robbery of two Birmingham area banks.

"Alsabrook’s prior criminal history included three robberies," stated U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin. "He had served eight years of a twenty year sentence and was on parole at the time of these bank robberies."

United States District Court Judge James H. Hancock sentenced ALSABROOK to the prison term and ordered him to repay the two banks he robbed of a total of $5,535. Assistant United States Attorney Michael Whisonant, who prosecuted the case, said that on June 7, 2006, ALSABROOK robbed the Regions Bank on Old Springville Road in Trussville, Alabama. He entered the bank, and claimed to have a bomb, which he left inside the bank when he fled in a Ford Ranger pickup. The Birmingham Bomb Squad determined that there was no real bomb left behind by ALSABROOK.

On June 16, 2006, ALSABROOK robbed the AmSouth Bank in Clay, Alabama. Assistant United States Attorney Whisonant stated that witnesses reported seeing a Ford Ranger pickup truck speed away from the robbery scene. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies spotted Ford Ranger pickup truck, pursued the vehicle and placed ALSABROOK under arrest. Officers found money from the bank robbery along with the note he used to rob AmSouth Bank. The officers also found the clothes ALSABROOK wore during the Regions Bank robbery in the pickup truck.

"The coordination of local, state and federal law enforcement is remarkable in investigations such as this," stated Carmen S. Adams Special Agent in Charge Federal Bureau of Investigation, Birmingham Field Division. "Police officers and federal agents are commended in this case for their diligent efforts."

The investigation of this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Trussville Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
