FRANKLIN COUNTY MAN INDICTED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

BIRMINGHAM, AL - RAYMOND LANE WALLACE, 33, of Russellville, Alabama, was indicted today by a federal grand jury for one count of possession of child pornography and one count of receiving material involving the sexual exploitation of minors according to United States Attorney Alice H. Martin and Carmen S. Adams, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation. The indictment also seeks the forfeiture of any property used by Wallace to commit these crimes.

The sentence for possession of child pornography is imprisonment of up to 10 years and the sentence for receipt of child pornography is imprisonment of no less than 5 years and no more than 20 years. Both counts carry a fine of up to $250,000.

"The arrest and prosecution of those who possess child pornography will continue to be a top priority in this district," stated United States Attorney Alice H. Martin. "Cutting edge technology, along with dedicated law enforcement officers, make this effort successful. No longer will those who enjoy looking at images of the sexual abuse of children be able to hide in their own home behind the anonymity of a computer screen."

"The ease and availability of the internet has made trading in child pornography rampant," stated Carmen S. Adams, Special Agent in Charge Federal Bureau of Investigation, Birmingham Field Division. "But the same technology that has made this crime easy for criminals to commit, has also been a boost to our jobs as law enforcement officers and helped in the apprehension of hundreds of criminals in this district."

Special Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated this matter, and it is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney, Mary Stuart Burrell on behalf of the United States.
Members of the public are reminded that an indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government's burden to prove a defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
