Anniston Man Sentenced Today for Three Armed Bank Robberies
BIRMINGHAM—U.S. District Court Judge Inge P. Johnson today sentenced an Anniston man to 20 years and 4 months in prison for the armed robbery of three Alabama banks in 2007, announced U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and FBI Special Agent in Charge Patrick Maley.
A federal jury in July convicted RODNEY EUGENE TUCKER, 40, on the three armed bank robbery counts and on one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence.
“This defendant not only robbed these banks of money, he robbed innocent employees and customers of their safety and peace, and threatened their very lives,” Vance said. “The FBI and this office will always work diligently to track such violent offenders and bring them to justice.”
On March 2, 2007, Tucker entered a Superior Bank on U.S. 280 in Childersburg, and robbed the bank of approximately $27,570.
On April 4, 2007, Tucker entered an Amsouth Bank on U.S. 431 in Anniston, robbing the bank of approximately $20,772.
On September 5, 2007, Tucker entered the Colonial Bank located on U.S. 431 in Alexandria, and robbed it of approximately $10,494.
“I believe Mr. Tucker has made his last illegal withdrawal from a bank for a while,” Maley said. “Hopefully, the sentence handed down today will make those who would consider robbing a bank think before they act,” he said.
This matter was investigated by special agents of the FBI. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph P. Montminy.
