On August 8, 2007 the Community Credit Union of Gadsden, Alabama was robbed by two individuals who were subsequently taken into custody shortly after the incident. Since that time, there have been additional bank robberies in Calhoun, Cherokee Etowah and Marshall counties. A joint investigation by the Safe Streets Task Force which includes the Etowah County Drug Task Force, the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Gadsden Police Department has led to the arrest of five individuals from the greater Gadsden area for their participation in one or more of these robberies.
As you are aware, all of the robberies involved armed individuals entering each bank and threatening both employees and customers at gunpoint and then fleeing by motor vehicle. Additionally, in many instances stolen vehicles were involved as well as one armed carjacking and the kidnapping of two elderly women from the Anniston, Al area.
During the last several weeks, significant progress has been made in this investigation resulting in the recovery of firearms, forensic evidence and physical evidence from the various robberies. These evidentiary items as well as witness information has led to the issuance of arrest warrants for the following below listed subjects and additional arrests are anticipated as this investigation draws to a conclusion:
